The latter half of 2012 included several consecutive months of below-seasonal demand followed by a slight uptick towards the end of the calendar year. So, what’s in store for 2013? On Thursday, March 14th, plan to spend your evening with The Logistics Council for what will be an outstanding dinner program regarding the State of Transportation in 2013. Benjamin Hartford, senior research analyst at RW Baird and perennial speaker for TLC, will present an in-depth look into the current state of the Transportation industry from the perspective of a Wall Street analyst. Armed with this new insight, you’ll return to work more prepared to tackle the challenges and opportunities expected this calendar year.
Program Overview:
Comparisons are difficult in 1H13, with exceptionally favorable weather conditions in 1Q12 and declining fuel prices during 2Q12. Year-to-date, domestic transports have meaningfully outperformed the market. Many do not expect as early of a start to 1Q demand as experienced last year, and more readily available truckload capacity in 2H12 could pressure conversations with shippers. Analysts target core truckload rate growth throughout 2013, with downside protected by continued constraints to capacity.
Topics to be addressed:
- Where are we in the economic cycle?
- Our outlook one year ago – what went right, what went wrong?
- Stable industry volumes likely to produce core truckload rate growth.
- Pricing growth could accelerate if demand catalysts materialize.
- Cautious optimism for 2013 freight demand.
- Freight trends: industrial vs. retail; domestic vs. international
- Freight forwarding yield environment remains very competitive
- How are transportation managers evolving supply chain strategies for the upcoming cycle?
