The Logistics Council (TLC) of Milwaukee invites you to attend a dinner program on Thursday, January 17th, for what will be an exciting educational event focused on US CBP Compliance. Our program will feature 2 Compliance professionals from FedEx Trade Network and Brokerage who will take us through the basic and mid-level concerns with compliance requirements to CBP regulations.
Program Overview:
Supply Chain professionals, whether shipper, carriers, warehousemen or brokers must all deal with compliance issues and requirements on a daily basis as we compete in a global market. How we comply with regulations mandated by law and enforced by CBP determines if our shipments move into or out of the United States. Every move must be properly documented or your company could face fines, penalties, or even the ability to ship or receive internationally. There is also the real possibility of jail time. This program will help explore the basics of Compliance and outline the do’s and don’ts as well as look at some problem areas you might not be aware of. We will also take a look at what is new or soon to be new in terms of Compliance.
Our experts will present their perspectives as learned from years of experience working for a large brokerage. They will bring issues relevant to all parties in a supply chain relationship as well as considerations and solutions they currently employ for global shipping. After the presentation there will be an opportunity to ask questions.
Speakers:
Jane Pedersen Sorensen, LCB, CCS, General Manager, Central Region – FedEx Trade Networks Transport & Brokerage, Inc.
Jane has just over 31 years of experience in the freight forwarding and Customs brokerage industry, having held several regional and general management positions in the Customs Ports of Chicago, Denver and Dallas.
Jane is presently the General Manager for FedEx Trade Networks’ Central Region, Chicago and Columbus and has been with FedEx Trade Networks for five years. Jane holds a bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University in French and Spanish languages, is a licensed Customs Broker and a current Certified Customs Specialist. Jane manages the air, ocean, import, export and warehouse operations in the region, involving 110 associates.
Jane volunteers her time with the CCBFA board through assembling and editing the quarterly newsletter, participating in the annual Government Affairs Conference, the annual NCBFAA Conference and the national NVOCC committee.
Jane, her husband, Chris and black lab reside in Algonquin, IL.
Joe Trulik, General Manager – FedEx Trade Networks Transport & Brokerage, Inc.
Since 1999, Joseph Trulik has acted as the General Manager for FedEx Trade Networks out of their Romulus, Michigan office. Responsible for FedEx Trade Networks Operation for shipments coming through the Michigan Gateways, the largest-volume land border crossing for imports, he has gained significant experience with customs procedures for every mode of transportation — land, air and sea. With recent customs and regulatory changes, Mr. Trulik’s role has continued to evolve as he actively works with shippers, importers, carriers and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to enhance, develop and facilitate processes and programs designed to streamline importing, exporting warehousing and forwarding.
After achieving a BA at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mr. Trulik began his career in international transportation and customs brokerage in 1985 when he was hired by CJ Tower & Sons as a release and classification analyst. Founded in Niagara Falls, NY in 1913, CJ Tower & Sons is one of the several companies that eventually combined to form FedEx Trade Networks Transport & Brokerage, Inc. Since his hire date, Mr. Trulik has grown right along with the company. He received an MBA from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI, became a licensed customs broker in 1988, and earned FedEx Trade Networks’ prestigious Five Star Award in both 2000 and 2004.
In the past, Mr. Trulik has managed FedEx Trade Networks’ Regulatory Services group and provided consultation and training on a variety of regulatory topics including protests, penalties, seizures, compliance issues, and NAFTA eligibility. He served as a board member with the National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America and is currently the President of the Detroit Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association.
He and his wife, Leah, a Human Resources Specialist, live in Ann Arbor, Michigan with their two children.
