The Logistics Council (TLC) of Milwaukee invites you to a tour on Wednesday May 13th with officials of the Port of Milwaukee and U.S. Coast Guard. Peter Hirthe of Port of Milwaukee will provide a briefing of the Port operations, reviewing 2014 performance, as well as offering an assessment of 2015 and beyond. USCG Captain Cocanour welcomes us to the Lake Michigan Sector HQ and a tour of the station. This is promises to be an interesting tour, so be sure to reserve your space early.

The Mission of the Port of Milwaukee is to enhance the overall economic and social environment of the City and region by stimulating trade, business, and employment. Consistent with the Port’s water-related location, the Port shall strive to be a premier provider of transportation and distribution services for its commercial customers and support public recreation, leisure, and other uses the Port deems to be in the public interest.

The U.S. Coast Guard is one of the five armed forces of the United States and the only military organization within the Department of Homeland Security. Since 1790 the Coast Guard has safeguarded our Nation’s maritime interests and environment around the world. The Coast Guard is an adaptable, responsive military force of maritime professionals whose broad legal authorities, capable assets, geographic diversity and expansive partnerships provide a persistent presence along our rivers, in the ports, littoral regions and on the high seas. Coast Guard presence and impact is local, regional, national and international. These attributes make the Coast Guard a unique instrument of maritime safety, security and environmental stewardship.

The tour will feature a Port Operations & St. Lawrence Seaway briefing, visits to the Port facilities for active loading operations and/or boat visits, and a tour of the USCG Sector Lake Michigan Headquarters in Milwaukee. Due to the variations in port schedules, the event schedule is subject to change. These interactions will benefit your understanding of port operations and how the USCG participates in and protects US commerce.
