The Logistics Council (TLC) of Milwaukee invites you to a dinner program on Thursday, September 21st with Mike Pagel, an industry expert in hazardous materials compliance. Mike will share his experiences working with shippers and carriers in the complex world of dangerous goods transportation.
While many think of “hazardous materials” (or dangerous goods) as poison gases or cargo tanks of gasoline, regulated hazmat also includes everyday consumer products such as cosmetics, aerosols, health care items, and lithium battery-powered electronic devices. For most businesses, navigating the DOT’s hazmat transportation regulations is a major source of frustration due to murky regulations, common misinterpretations and severe penalties from regulatory violations. For shippers, carriers, and 3PLs that must transport hazardous materials, navigating the regulations with uncertainty is a common, albeit risky, approach. Rather than face these challenges, many businesses avoid shipping hazardous materials altogether, losing sales and profits to rivals.
Drawing from his experiences helping businesses build their hazmat compliance programs, Mike will highlight how companies achieve compliance through all parts of the supply chain, including product classification, employee training, proper use of exceptions, managing differences in modal regulations, and carrier hazmat requirements. In addition, Mike will discuss current DOT enforcement priorities and offer industry best practices related to DOT HazMat Regulations compliance.
