Program Overview:

Death of Shopping Malls. . . Rise of Urban Warehousing

A Christmas gift purchased on-line over lunch on Friday arrived on Saturday at 4pm.  How is this possible?  Logistics is rapidly changing to support local inventory deployment and direct-to-consumer delivery.

Who would have thought that on-line shopping would so fundamentally change the nature of logistics?

Over the past 10 years, traditional “Brick & Mortar” retailers have scrambled to compete with in the e-Tailing space, building on-line storefronts, expanding product offerings, and shifting logistics infrastructure from a Direct-to-Store focus to Direct-to-Consumer. The shift in customer buying behavior not only involves B2C (Business to Consumer), but also B2B (Business to Business) commerce. This program will explore these changes from several perspectives, including the shipper, carrier and real estate developer.

We invited a “Shipper”, Angelo Ventrone VP – Logistics, Uline, who will talk about the company’s efforts to shift from catalog wholesaler to on-line supplier, expand warehousing assets across the country, and handle on-time delivery on millions of shipments annually.  We invited a “Carrier” (and 3PL), Ken Carlson, Global Account Manager, UPS, who will talk about the shifting demand by transportation mode and how it is managing rising demand for small-package delivery, white-glove services, and drivers.  Our “Developer”, Jim Larkin, VP – Industrial Brokerage, Colliers International, will lend a unique perspective on the nature of supporting real estate assets, market changes, rents and facility design.

The program will conclude with a panel discussion and social networking time.
